  1. Brajesh,

I remember reading somewhere on this site (can't remember where) that you will be developing BP chat as a premium plugin. Any indication when is that going to be rolled out?

  2. Hi Becky,
you are right, I was developing a chat plugin.

Bp Chat will not be a premium plugin. It will be a free plugin. It is half developed and needs some recent changes. I had not worked on it recently and it got much delayed.

Please do remind me if I do not produce it by this weekend.

    Thanks
    Brajesh

  5. looking forward to it Brajesh :)

  6. Really look forward to it. Would it be on a footpanel ?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  7. Hi, It will be almost same as FB chat.
It will have footer panel and group chat functionality included as you can do like inviting friends to chat

I have been working on a simple chat earlier, then discarded and included the functionality of group chat. It is the only thing I am working at this moment and will come anytime very soon.

  10. This plugin sounds amazing... we are currently using the wibiya bar chat on our site and it is not so good in the BP application of it...

  11. Yay! Ur my hero :)

  12. Yep - REALLY looking forward to it!!!

  13. Sorry to post this- but I think sometimes a little hard words might help:

Dear Brajesh - it would be great, if you could communicate more realistic time-goals... The chat is one good example of it. To me it is much less frustrating to know, that it takes longer, than to wait, looking forward to a set release-time, that is delayed and delayed (alot!).
This is not meant to discourage, but to encourage to set more realistic goals. I would be thankful for it (because it helps me plan my projects better...)

  14. Miguael! I was about to start a post with exactly the same subject...it seems like you are very optimistic with your time Brajesh :-) We really appreciate your work and for us it is better that you set realistic goals rather than saying things will be ready tomorrow. I think people will have no problems waiting a couple of weeks or even a month for a plugin they really want.
Thanks again for all your amazing work!

I am sorry for causing the inconveniences. You are right in terms of schedule. It is absolutely correct that I have missed several deadlines and I understand your feelings.

My only problem is being an optimist or diehard optimist I am working on the unrealistic schedules and hopping to make it possible but the outcome has been not so favorable If we see the recent times.

I have plans to resolve it as I have the half completed new site of buddydev.com(which I had to put online 2 months ago), and that specifically deals with all the shortcoming of my current project working style, timeline etc. But I am not in a condition to put the site even before the plugins get completed.

Coming to the Bp-Chat, I had moved from my own code to ajax IM and then again to writing whole of my own code instead of ajax Im. That all causes a lot of time delays and may not be visible.

It was only the two weeks ago, when I had to rewrite It for the current functionality.

What is holding me at the moment, is the no. of mysql queries. Most of the site owners will be using this on shared hosting and if there are even 1000 user, the no. of queries will be overwhelming if not done correctly.

Now being a little bit realistic, I am going to put a beta version of this plugin for all of you to test on 15th September. The beta version may/ may not be the 100 percent perfect but It will be there to give you an idea of what it is/and how it works. If the results of test are good enough(specifically the load balancing), I will put the plugin as stable after a week.

    Hope that helps.

  20. Hi all,
here is a small video showing it working on my local dev system with multiple browsers(I used opera/chrome for this demo). Please have a look.

    http://www.screencast.com/t/ZTkyOTg4
The demo shows synchronization of chat messages when multiple pages are open on sender side and/ or reliever side.

It needs some more work( I was unable to complete it yesterday, will update more in next couple of hours).

    The remaining parts are
    1. UI polishing
    2. cron scheduling for cleaning up the user who have left the site but did not log out
and a couple of small fixes(like auto scrolling chat window, scrolling of chat tabs when there are multiple tabs open which goes more than the current page an show.

I am sorry for this small delay but last night, my all work of page synchronization messed me while testing. I am positive on putting the demo to work. a little bit hesitant on putting the download at this moment as it looks rough and needs some work. hopefully by today after noon/evening the download will be able.

This version also do not provide notification sound, I will be putting notification sound in the next version.

Hope you all don't mind much.

  23. I can help you out with creating a nice UI/Styling... When you put the beta online, I'll start working on the styling.. you focus on the coding, I'll try to make it look awesome :)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  24. Volunteering to help out with UI/Styling as well - if needed, or coming up with different skins for the chat :-)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  25. @mercime
So we'll have many ways to skin a chat? :-)

    @Brajesh
I'm here to chip in too, if needed.

  26. HI Bowe, Mercime and Patrick,
Thank you all, I am certainly going to need your help and looking forward to it.
I avoided the forum today to wrap up the chat and I am glad to say, I have almost done that. though, It is not exactly what I want but I am going to put it online in next 2-3 hours for download and will be polishing further after you all provide the feed back :)

@mercime, different skins will be great :)
    Thanks again
    Brajesh

  27. Hi all,
Here is the current version of bp-chat
    http://buddydev.com/http//buddydev.com/public-download/bp-chat-alpha.zip

    dependency: jquery,json,jquery ScrollTo plugin.

Please note the following before installations:-
    1. Please do not use it at all on live installation, We will have a stable version within next couple of days for stable version, this is to get the feedback and bugs(I know a few remaining bugs there and I am sure I might have missed more).

    2. It will not work with Internet explorer, css fixes are required but I could not find time for that, so I will be updating it and will be looking to your contributions for the enhancement.

    3. Currently a user can not turn off chat/limit to his friends, I am working on setting screen and we will have the options to turn off chat, enable/diasble chat history and limiting to friends(not the entire site as is the case currently)

    4. The plugin is not very much optimized for database query at the momet, som more enhancements are coming next

    5. The sound notification will be part of next currently you may see the new messages by hovering over the chat tabs.

    6. anyone of you know a way to find the list of online users(other than checking the last activity time) in wordpress ?

Please test and help me to get it better.

PS: I will be away for at least 6 hours from now, so please post the error reports/any problems you get, I will be posting as soon as i get back to work again today.

  28. #6. something like Who is Online plugin or Visitor Maps and Who is Online plugin?

Hi Brajesh, it's past midnight now and I've turned into a mouse and can barely type, so will be testing this tomorrow ;-)

    Cheers.

  29. @Brajesh

There may be help for #6 in bp-core-widgets.php.

    Something like this?
    <?php if ( bp_has_members( 'user_id=0&type=online') ) : ?>

Now to download and check it out on my local install. :-)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  30. Great to have something to test :-)!
My testinstall is in a subblog - and maybe that is the reason, why it does not seem to work at all?

    I see the chat-bar.
I can click on "who's online".
But it says (0) - although two people are online.
It does not show my avatar and name etc (as in the screencast)
    Therefore (I guess) I can't write anything.
If I click on "chat options" - nothing happens.

I tried it in firefox. BP 1.2.5.2. WP 3.01.
