Stealth Mode for Site Admin/s

  1. Any thoughts of a function which I could upload or "turn on" that enables "Stealth Mode" for Site Admin/s only. I would only enable this during times I log in to test or debug some features (so no interruptions and no one feeling "hurt" I didn't respond right away). Stealth mode = my avatar won't show up in recently online avatars or where I won't be "seen" as "active" at that moment, etc. Then disable or delete that "stealth mode" function during times I want to socialize and be "seen" :-)

  2. hi mercime
That's a really Nice thing. I appreciate your thoughts.
buddypress uses 'bp_core_record_activity' to update usermeta for logged in users to record their activity.

I will be back in next 2 hours and create a simple plugin(should not take more than 15 minutes). I will be making it available then.
Thanks again for such a wonderful suggestion.

    Thanks

  3. btw, there are two options we have.
For the first time, when you activate plugin, your activity will be recorded(since the plugin was not active earlier). So you will appear online until the plugin is activated. Once the plugin is activated no activity will be recorded.

Now my question is: We can set the last activity to yesterday or some past time(for the 1st time when plugin is activated) and It will not show you recently active, should we do that ?
Once plug in is activated, your last activity time will not be recorded and you will not appear online.

So, Please let me have your further advises.
    Thanks

  4. Hi Brajesh, here's what I'm thinking now to make it better ;-) The Stealth Mode is only for Site Admin/s (not blog admins) and it's "ON" by Default. When Site Admin/s is ready to be "seen" then he/she could change Stealth Mode to "OFF".

I was thinking that adding such feature to the wp-admin-bar for is_site_admin
I think wp-admin-bar is great location for it instead of going dashboard>site admin stuff. It could be a code which could be placed in bp-custom.php or a plugin in WP repository - up to you :-)
When Stealth Mode is ON by default, the link to wp-admin-bar is "SM Off" (saving space).
When Stealth Mode is OFF (site admin seen by everyone), then link in wp-admin is "SM On".
Or is a dropdown in wp-admin-bar easier to implement?

    Thank you.

    Thanks again for the suggestion.

and an update about gallery, earlier I had issues with wordpress cookie authentication while uploading using flash(uploadify jquery script) , but Today I have resolved it, I had to do a little bit research into codes, so took much more time than expected. Anyway, gallery will be live tomorrow or latest by 28th December :)

  8. @Brajesh,
    1. Is the stealth plugin upgraded to 1.2 yet?
    2. If I need to start doing some mass uploading up to galleries to convert some of my old nexgen gallery pages to bp-gallery, will this work to hide all my activity? Even though my site isn't live yet, I don't want to fill up pages and pages of activity if I'm converting photo and video galleries.

    Thanks.

  9. Hi Symm2112, Stealth Mode is working in BP 1.2 for my installs.
In order to prevent my uploading activities showing into general or personal stream, each album I created was set to "Private" only. After uploading the media and saving that gallery, I edit it to show to "Public". If you don't set the gallery to "Private" your activity will show up, at least that's what I've experienced in rc1.
    Cheers.

  10. Ahh. I didn't think about that. I need to upload quite a bit of media today and didn't want to fill up my stream with those files. I didn't think about temporarily setting them to private to prevent that and then going public. Thanks!

  11. Symm2112, please note that when you edit the album visibility, from "Private" to "Public", the individual images/other media within are still "Private". Somehow, changing the visibilty of parent Gallery doesn not change the media visibility within. You would need to change privacy of each image to public. Reporting this in other thread.

  12. Hi Brajesh, Stealth Mode Plugin doesn't seem to work for me. For some reason (not because of plugin because it has been like this for sometime), my profile is stuck at "active sometime ago" instead of recording the actual time that I was active. And on the Recently Active Avatar, my profile is stuck at No.1 even after I have logged out. Newly logged in members are listed from 2nd onwards.

What can I do about it?

  13. Hi Becky,
It may be a bug. Can you please let me know the wp version and the bp version ? I will test and update the plugin if required.

  14. WP 3.0.1 (single) and BP 1.2.5.2.

I have the bp-default theme installed.

I did further experiment - when I changed the time in general setting to UTC, the time listed for the forum posts are correct (but not the private messages) and the stealth mode seem to be working except that if I login (after being logged out for an hour or so), admin activity will be recorded but subsequent activities are hidden. In other words, even if I have the stealth mode on perpetually, admin's last active will be the time admin logged in.

    Thanks for your help Brajesh
